Bethany Wines, Barossa Valley, South Australia.
This fortified red is made in the same way as Port wines in Portugal.
At Bethany they use fully ripe Shiraz and Grenache grapes, pressed and allowed to ferment, half way through the fermentation they add premium quality Australian brandy, then age the wine in large old oak barrels for up to 9 years.
The bouquet displays intense raisin and nutty characters and on taste show similar flavours. The lingering finish is rich, quite sweet and full of flavour with a lovely ‘Port like’ spiritiness.
Perfect with cheese or chocolate desserts!
