Description
Kanonkop Estate, Simonsberg, Stellenbosch, South Africa.
Kanonkop, arguably produces the best Pinotage in South Africa.
As a wine, Pinotage requires some bottle maturation before it become drinkable. This 2011 wine is just beginning to drink well but will keep for many more years.
It is produced from mature bush vines grown on degraded granite soils on the estate. The grapes are hand harvested when fully mature, macerated for 3 days in skin contact in open fermenters, cap plunged manually every 2 hours. Once fully fermented the wine is aged for 16 months in 80% new French oak barrels and 20% in 1 year old barrels.
The style is very full bodied, deep ruby colour, some soft oak and grape tannins, complex with flavours of red fruits, plum and banana. More earthy flavours appear with extended bottle ageing.
Perfect with sirloin steaks, venison and hung game.
Sorry, currently out of stock.
